The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has commenced the land acquisition process required for the construction of Namma Metro Phase 3. Initially, 26,811 square meters of land were acquired for the stretch from JP Nagar Phase 4 to Mysuru Road Metro Station.
This ambitious project includes multiple interchange stations, such as Peenya and JP Nagar on the Green Line, Mysuru Road on the Purple Line, and Sumanahalli on the Hosahalli-Kadabagere route. JP Nagar Phase 4 will connect to the Pink Line at Bannerghatta Road, while Hebbal will serve as an interchange for the Blue Line (airport route) and Red Line (Hebbal-Sarjapur route).
According to BMRCL officials, Phase 3 will feature a double-decker viaduct, as outlined in the Detailed Project Report (DPR). Any additional land required will be acquired in consultation with Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). The viaduct will be constructed without affecting existing roads, flyovers, or underpasses. The estimated project cost for Phase 3 is Rs 15,611 crore, with Rs 7,57 crore sourced from loans and Rs 450 crore from revenue streams such as advertising and station naming rights. The network will require 252 coaches, with an estimated daily ridership of 7.28 lakh passengers by 2028.
Geotechnical investigations have already begun on Magadi Road for Phase 3. The first phase covers soil testing from Mysuru Road Station to Kanteerava Studio Station, while the second phase spans from Hosahalli Station to Kadabagere Depot. Additional studies will be conducted for stretches between Kanteerava Studio Station and Kempapura Station, as well as JP Nagar Phase 4 to Mysuru Road Station. The total cost of these investigations is approximately Rs 5.49 crore, with completion expected in five months.
